Breast Augmentation

What is Botox?

Botox, or botulinum toxin, is an injectable treatment that is primarily targeted to treat wrinkles, fine lines and creases on the face. It can also be used as a non-permanent facial contouring treatment to slim down your profile. Botox is more widely known as an effective anti-aging product for improving the appearance of your skin. Botox is able to treat signs of advanced aging as it promotes collagen production and skin elasticity. In Singapore, Botox is used to temporarily give patients a younger and tighter look.

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a common surgical method used to improve the size and shape of women breasts. Many women in Singapore seek to enhance their breast size as they typically sit on the smaller side. Breast implants come in saline and silicone material with a wide range of sizes to suit every patient’s chest. They are filled with gel which makes them soft and flexible like natural breasts.

How does Breast Augmentation work?

Breast augmentation involves surgically placing an implant behind the breast tissues or under the pectoral (chest) muscle. During the procedure, incisions are made either along the nipple (peri-areolar incision), under the breast (inframammary fold incision) or in the armpit (trans-axillary incision). These spots ensure that your surgical scars will not be visible.

Breast implants can be inserted as a round or teardrop shape depending on the patient’s preferences. Round implants help to give a fuller look in the upper breast when showing cleavage and teardrop implants give a subtle curvature that is more anatomically similar to natural breasts. Incisions are then closed with stitches and removed by your doctor after 1 to 2 weeks.

Why Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures. It is a recommended procedure for women who wish to increase the size of their breasts for various reasons. This includes those who have undergone breast removal due to conditions like breast cancer and women who have seen a reduction of breast size after weight loss.

Size problems aside, breast augmentation can help correct the problem of uneven breasts and improve how firm they look as breasts tend to sag with age.

What results can I expect from Breast Augmentation?

It is important to have realistic expectations before and after breast augmentation surgery to ensure that you will be satisfied with your results.

Your doctor will help you decide on the best implant shape and size to suit your needs prior to undergoing the procedure. The implants in your breast will typically drop down in the first few months after the surgery which is what the final look of your breasts will be. This is what gives it the look of more natural breasts.

Results of a breast augmentation surgery can tend to look subtle or dramatic based on the patient’s desired outcome and the type of implants used.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long can breast implants last?
Breast augmentation is a permanent method of enhancing the look of your breasts. For most patients, their first set of implants are satisfactory and they do not need a revision until many years later. Implants are able to remain in place for 10 to 20 years and many patients only require 1 or 2 revisions in their lifetime.

For those who find that they are too large or too small or want to change the material of their implants, they may undergo a revision surgery before the stipulated time frame to replace the implant.
Is breast augmentation safe?
Breast augmentation is a widely-performed procedure. It is an invasive surgery which means it can come with risks. These include experiencing numbness in the breasts and nipples, implant leakage and rupture and developing an infection and scarring. As such, it is important to get your procedure done by an experienced surgeon to ensure a successful procedure.

Patients who are pregnant may not be able to undergo a breast augmentation surgery as there may be some complications involving the breast tissue. Breast augmentation surgery typically takes between 1.5 to 2 hours and can be completed safely as an outpatient procedure.
Is breast augmentation painful?
During breast augmentation surgery, general anesthesia will be administered via intravenous line. This process can cause some discomfort. However, the procedure itself should not cause any pain as you will be asleep throughout the entire procedure. Pain or swelling that may appear after surgery will likely go away with time or with medication that will be prescribed by your doctor. Drainage tubes may also be used to fasten the healing process which can cause some discomfort during recovery.
Does breast augmentation have any downtime?
As breast augmentation is considered a major surgery, there will be ample
downtime to facilitate wound healing and prevent any risk of infection. It is
important that you do not take part in strenuous activities until a week
since undergoing breast augmentation surgery has passed. This includes
going to work and exercising or driving. It will take up to 4 to 6 weeks to
recover from breast augmentation surgery and resume all of your normal
activities.
