Dimpleplasty

What is Botox?

Botox, or botulinum toxin, is an injectable treatment that is primarily targeted to treat wrinkles, fine lines and creases on the face. It can also be used as a non-permanent facial contouring treatment to slim down your profile. Botox is more widely known as an effective anti-aging product for improving the appearance of your skin. Botox is able to treat signs of advanced aging as it promotes collagen production and skin elasticity. In Singapore, Botox is used to temporarily give patients a younger and tighter look.

What is a Dimpleplasty?

Dimples are naturally occurring indentations caused by deeper facial muscles when a person smiles. In rare cases, some dimples may be the cause of injury.

Anyone who wishes to have this facial trait can achieve it with a dimpleplasty. In some cultures, dimples are considered a sign of beauty, luck or fortune, making dimpleplasty a sought-out cosmetic procedure in recent years.

With this rise in popularity, dimpleplasty surgery has become known as a common and safe procedure to undergo to achieve dimples.

How does a Dimpleplasty works?

Dimpleplasty can be performed by a plastic surgeon on an outpatient basis and may not require general anaesthesia.

  • After marking the desired spot where the dimple(s) will be made, topical anaesthesia is applied.
  • The surgeon will then proceed to make a small incision hole in the skin – this manually creates a dimple.
  • A small amount of muscle and fat is then removed to create the indentation.
  • Once an opening has been made, the surgeon will then position a suture from one side of the cheek muscle to the other and tie it permanently to set the dimple in place.

The total area for each dimple is approximately 2 to 3 millimetres in length.

Why get a Dimpleplasty?

Dimpleplasty achieves results that are purely aesthetic and does not treat any underlying medical condition. Depending on the individual, they may want to add character to their face and, in some cases, enhance their smile.

Dimples can also help in making a rounder face look slimmer or more angular. In some cultures, dimples are seen as an attractive facial trait with many believing they can bring luck and fortune.

What results can I expect from a Dimpleplasty?

After the surgery, patients will experience slight swelling on the site. The dimples will be most noticeable and unnatural immediately post-surgery but once the swelling subsides, the end results look as real as natural dimples and only appear when you smile.

Most patients have a speedy recovery from this simple surgical procedure as long as they follow the aftercare instructions by their doctor.

It is important to consult an experienced doctor about your desired results and have realistic expectations of what the after results will look like. While dimples are similar, they will look different on each person depending on their facial structure and fat distribution.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a dimpleplasty permanent?
Once the sutures are set in place and have been absorbed, the dimples will stay due to scar tissue formed in the cheeks. This results in permanent dimples upon full recovery.
Is a dimpleplasty procedure reversible?
Dimpleplasty is considered a permanent procedure but can be reversed by removing the sutures before full recovery. If you are further along after your dimpleplasty procedure, it can still be reversed but this may leave your cheeks with an unnatural appearance.
Will dimpleplasty achieve a natural look?
Following dimpleplasty surgery, the dimples may appear deeper but they will look more natural within a couple of months. Dimples achieved through dimpleplasty may initially be visible at all times, but over time they will only be visible when you smile.
