Liposuction

What is Botox?

Botox, or botulinum toxin, is an injectable treatment that is primarily targeted to treat wrinkles, fine lines and creases on the face. It can also be used as a non-permanent facial contouring treatment to slim down your profile. Botox is more widely known as an effective anti-aging product for improving the appearance of your skin. Botox is able to treat signs of advanced aging as it promotes collagen production and skin elasticity. In Singapore, Botox is used to temporarily give patients a younger and tighter look.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction, or lipo, is a fat removal procedure that uses surgical methods to reduce fat in the body. Liposuction is commonly performed in areas such as the hips, arms and buttocks which tend to accumulate fat. Liposuction causes a drastic reduction in fat which leads to a slimmer and more shapely appearance without having to exercise. It is also done as a contouring method to help to give you a desirable body line by removing smaller buildups of fat.

How does Liposuction work?

Liposuction removes excess fat from the body through small incisions that are made in the skin. It is a recommended treatment option for those who are generally satisfied with their weight but suffer from excess fat in specific areas that they have had problems getting rid of. During a liposuction procedure, a thin and flexible plastic tube called a cannula is inserted to transfer fat out of the problem areas by “sucking” it out with a vacuum.

Why Liposuction?

Liposuction is a popular treatment method designed to slim down areas that are relatively difficult to target even with intensive workouts at the gym. You will find that this removal of excess fat will help you look more sculpted and closer to your ideal body with little to no effort.

Some benefits of liposuction include:

  • Increased confidence
  • Slim body line
  • Targeted fat reduction

What areas can Liposuction treat?

Liposuction is able to treat the following areas including:

  • Waist
  • Arms
  • Tummy
  • Neck
  • Thighs
  • Buttocks
  • Abdomen
  • Calves

Frequently Asked Questions

What results can I expect from liposuction?
After undergoing a liposuction procedure, your skin’s elasticity will typically follow the new and improved shape of your body. Results of liposuction will vary and can look very natural or dramatic depending on your desired outcome. While this is the case, liposuction does not replace exercise and a healthy diet. Liposuction may also cause stretch marks that result from the skin being loosened but they can be made smoother and less obvious with special toning treatments.
How many treatments of liposuction do I need?
As liposuction is a permanent method of fat removal and body contouring, many patients find that they are satisfied with their results after just one session of liposuction.

Those who want to reduce fat in larger areas such as the thighs or abdomen will need more than one session depending on the treatment plan you and your doctor have formulated.

Patients who want a targeted treatment method in smaller areas are also considered to be good candidates for liposuction. This is because they will see subtle results that help enhance their body shape rather than make a dramatic change.
Is liposuction safe?
Liposuction is a generally safe procedure for fat removal and will carry some risks depending on how extensive the surgery is. These include internal punctures in organs, fat embolism (fat trapped in blood vessels), kidney and heart problems, and infections. It is therefore important to consult a skilled doctor to ensure that you will have a smooth procedure.

It is also necessary to let your doctor know about any preexisting medical conditions that you may have to check if you are a suitable candidate for liposuction. Patients with coronary artery disease or diabetes may not be able to undergo a liposuction surgery as there may be some complications.
Is liposuction painful?
Liposuction is a minimally-invasive fat removal procedure and there may be some pain during and after the treatment. During liposuction, local or general anesthesia will be administered via intravenous line which can cause some discomfort. The treatment itself should not cause any pain.

You can also request for a mild sedative prior to your procedure. Your doctor will also prescribe medication to alleviate any pain or swelling that may present itself after the surgery. Surgical drains may be used to facilitate healing and fluid drainage which can cause a minimal amount of discomfort during the recovery process.
Is there any downtime?
As liposuction involves surgically removing fat from your body, there will be some downtime to help your wounds heal and prevent any risk of infection. It is crucial that you do not partake in strenuous activities in the following days after undergoing liposuction. This includes going to work, driving, or engaging in exercise. Recovery from liposuction surgery will take up to 3 months depending on how extensive the procedure is.
